Iola

It is 4.3 miles north to Carlyle.
The short hop from Carlyle to Iola features some nice farms on either side of the trail which can be spotted through the trees. Most notable along this stretch is a long bridge over two intersecting roads and a stream. The roads are made to be easily floodable during a heavy rain. Once you hit the city limits of Iola the trail is paved. The rider will quickly notice the differences in the surfaces if this is the end of a long ride.

I have never biked the trail, but I have jog/hiked it (split up in two days). I now live in Iola and have been hiking on the trail,in smaller sections however. A month after I moved here I broke my leg really bad and am just now getting to where I can walk about 6 miles without too much pain. I don't see many hikers on the trail, which is a shame, but I would like to encourage more to come. T...

Cross posted from news section

Randy at Kansas Cyclist has made me aware that the city of Iola has some city statutes that will be of interest to those of us who are pedaling through town. The relevant sections of the municipal code are:

ARTICLE V. BICYCLES*

Ate here 6/15 just before the lunch buffet went in. The breakfast specials included full b&g ($2.99). The old-fashion omelet next to me looked great, too.

But I chose a grease injection of tenderloin w/onion rings instead. The romaine lettuce added a lot to this sandwich along with its tomato and other condiments.

Peeked at the buffet before leaving. It looked adequ...

We put in at Iola this last Saturday to ride to Garnett and back. I was really surprised that the park where the trail head is located HAS NO BATHROOM. Wow. That short ride to Carlyle can be a long one, but there is some secluded areas along there, if you know what I mean. I am hoping that there may someday be plans to have one there at Iola. So, if you are expecting to use facilites, need to ...

Some friends and I are planning to do a full out-and-back ride in the Spring. We will be starting in Ottawa, so we should hit Iola at lunchtime. So what's good to eat in Iola? Specifically, where should you eat lunch when you have 50 miles behind you, and another 50 miles in front of you? Any recommendations would be appreciated.
