Princeton

Mile Marker:67.3

Princeton Trailhead.

It is 6.7 miles north to the Ottawa Trailhead It is 6.4 miles south to Richmond.
This section of the trail is paved within the city limits of Ottawa but is otherwise crushed limestone. Once the trail leaves the Ottawa Trailhead it heads straight south towards I-35. Upon reaching it there is a quick jog to the east to go under the overpass. While this joins up with Highway 59 for about a block, there is a sectioned off lane exclusively for trail users. Once the trail turns south again, there is a slight grade upwards towards Princeton. Most of the way is canopied by trees which provide much desired shade on hot days. The trail crosses five gravel roads between Ottawa and Princeton with a variety is smoothness of transistions. As you approach John Brown Road, you should be able to see the Princeton Trailhead in front of you. The trail between Princeton and Richmond is wooded on both ends with most of the central section being open prairie. The grade rises slightly towards Richmond. Leaving Princeton, you cross the first bridge on the trail as you head south. Soon after the woods give away and if there is a wind, you will feel it. As you approach the crossing of Missouri Road, you will see a circular house off to the right with a deck all the way around it. Ahead is the distance you will soon spot the Beachner grain elevator. Once the trail becomes shady and surrounded by trees again, you are within a mile of the Richmond Trailhead.

The Princeton Quick Stop has all the traditional amenities that you might expect from a convenience store, gas, food, soda.

The pluses that a biker of the trail might enjoy include hot pizza and a liquor store.

I guess it depends on the biking group....
